IF you can remove the face plate would be the correct way.

If it’s a new house we take em off, if the boss says it’s production and we need to go fast because “they aren’t paying him enough” (which we know it’s a lie lol) we cut around and just tape the top when rolling and don’t use the 5in 1 to make straight lines around the trim, we just free hand it.
